Each of the seven main chapters introduces entirely new tools for both players: May might use a hammer while Cody uses nails, or Cody might gain the ability to shrink and grow while May wears gravity boots. Cooperation is not optional, as every puzzle and boss fight is built around asymmetric synchronization, such as one player spraying flammable sap while the other ignites it with a match gun.

While the original game has not received a direct sequel, its spiritual successor, Split Fiction, launched in March 2025.
